Behind the Signal Scouting

Michael Leis

Hi, I’m Michael and I love helping organizations bridge the gap between brand and experience; using technology in creative ways that are adaptable, relatable, and prompt meaningful action for the people they depend on.

My experience spans award-winning leadership roles in brand identity, content, social media, ux, writing, and design. I’ve helped the world’s largest, most complex brands use simple frameworks to design record-breaking, sustainable growth in health and wellness, ecommerce, quick-serve restaurants, financial services, national radio, and more.

What I love doing is creating models, methods, and data structures that teams can use to make meaning from all of the disparate data signals generated by people – creating brands people see as part of their identity, and systems delivering content people seek out and share.

I take a lot of pride in the way I help the organizations with my work annd perspective, too. Work’s greatest reward is attracting talented, high-performing people and building socially strong teams that excel at partnering and scaling new core capabilities. I have a knack for making real, lasting change in organizations with an approach of creative advocacy and understanding. I help to make new thinking and methods easier for people to adapt to and advocate for – on their own terms.

Recently featured as having authored a global strategic best practice by WARC (2020) and Cannes Lions keynote presentation (2021), and the first-ever healthcare brand to win a platform-wide Shorty Award. A winner of the PM360 “Elite” award, my social media crisis strategy has been praised by Mashable and Business Insider as having defined the best practice. My strategic approach has been cited multiple times in publications such as TechCrunch and Huffington Post.

On the creative side, my desktop application design work has been recognized by two Apple Staff picks, and an iStockPhoto designer spotlight. I've been nominated by TED for Dow's Giant Chalkboard as "An Idea worth watching." Have also been lucky enough to byline articles in Advertising Age, Media Post, and iMediaConnection, among others. I proudly served on the 4A’s executive board for social media, and the Information Architecture Institute board of advisors.

I live in Philadelphia, a graduate from Temple University in Televison Screenwriting and production. When I’m not at my computer, you can usually find me at small-venue music shows, large-venue baseball games, and your local disc golf course.
